A revised Draft Development Plan for the period 2023-2043 has been prepared by the Town Planning Department of Solapur Municipal Corporation, with public consultations and modifications under way.
Solapur is a major industrial and commercial city in south-eastern Maharashtra and is historically India’s largest centre for power-loom textiles and Solapuri chaddars (cotton blankets) and terry towels — products that hold Geographical Indication (GI) registration. The city’s textile sector is one of the largest concentrations of decentralised power-loom units in the country. Other industries include sugar processing (with sugar factories ringing the city), bidi rolling, agro-processing and engineering.
