Parbhani Region Development Plan — key details

The Parbhani Regional Plan covers Parbhani district in the Marathwada region of central Maharashtra, prepared under the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning Act, 1966. The plan is administered by the District Planning Office at Parbhani in conjunction with the Town Planning and Valuation Department of Maharashtra State, with the Parbhani Municipal Corporation as the principal urban local body and planning authority for the city’s jurisdiction.

Parbhani is a major agricultural-trade and education centre in central Maharashtra, well known as the home of the Vasantrao Naik Marathwada Agricultural University (VNMAU) — one of Maharashtra’s four state-funded agricultural universities, established in 1972. The district lies in the basin of the Godavari river and its tributary the Purna, with cotton, soybean, sugarcane and turmeric as the principal crops. Industrial activity centres on cotton ginning, sugar processing, oilseed milling and dal milling.

The plan overlay on this page reflects the published regional and municipal zoning and land-use boundaries georeferenced over satellite imagery, covering Parbhani city, the tehsil headquarters of Gangakhed, Jintur, Manwath, Pathri, Purna, Sailu, Sonpeth and Palam, and the surrounding agricultural plains.
