Jalgaon Region Development Plan — key details
The Jalgaon Development Plan is administered by the Jalgaon City Municipal Corporation (JCMC), which was constituted on 21 March 2003. The municipal corporation governs an area of approximately 68 square kilometres of Jalgaon city in north-western Maharashtra, with the final-form Development Plan having come into force from 11 February 2002 (prior to the corporation’s establishment, under the predecessor council). The plan is governed by the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning Act, 1966.
Jalgaon is colloquially known as the Banana City of India — farmers in Jalgaon district grow approximately two-thirds of Maharashtra’s banana crop, making it the country’s single largest banana-producing district. The wider district also hosts the railway-junction town of Bhusaval (a major Central Railway maintenance hub) and important industries including cotton ginning, oil milling, plastic pipe manufacturing and dal milling.
