The Aurangabad / Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar Development Plan is administered by the Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar Municipal Corporation (the city was officially renamed from Aurangabad). The original-limits town plan for Aurangabad city was sanctioned by the State Government in 1991 under the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning Act, 1966.
For the extended municipal limits, the Planning Authority declared its intention to prepare a draft Development Plan under Section 23(1) of the MRTP Act on 26 May 2010, and re-initiated revision proceedings in 2013. The corporation has subsequently (Resolution No. 232/2022 dated 19 January 2022) again declared its intention to prepare the consolidated Development Plan for the full corporation limit. Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar is the headquarters of Maharashtra’s Aurangabad Revenue Division covering the eight districts of Marathwada.
